According to a summary of the consent agreement shared by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, Chilliwack-based Ashley Gritner voluntarily agreed to a suspension and other restrictions related to incidents that occurred between April 2021 and February 2022.

The college said in a summary of the agreement that Gritner violated “professional boundaries” after encountering a client while working as a case manager at Chilliwack’s intensive case-management program.

“Ms. Gritner engaged in an intimate relationship with a vulnerable former client, approximately two months after the clinical nurse-client relationship ended,” the BCCNM summary said.

Along with the 12-month suspension, Gritner cannot work as a solo nurse on duty, supervise nursing students or work in an independent community-based practice for a year after returning to her role.

She will also be required to complete therapeutic training on boundaries and professional ethics and will require direct supervision for three months.

“The inquiry committee is satisfied that the conditions will protect the public,” the BCCNM’s summary said.
