Pauri: A BJP leader’s son and two employees of a resort owned by him were arrested on Friday for killing its receptionist, who had been missing for the past few days, police said.
The revenue police sub-inspector was suspended for allegedly misbehaving with the victim’s parents while filing a complaint in the matter, officials said.
The three accused — Pulkit Arya, who owns a resort in Yamakeshwar block here, resort manager Saurabh Bhaskar and assistant manager Ankit Gupta — were sent to 14-day judicial custody by the court, police said.
Pulkit Arya is the son of Haridwar BJP leader Vinod Arya. Vinod Arya was earlier the Chairman of Uttarakhand Mati Kala Board with the post of Minister of State.
Vinod Arya currently does not hold any position in the Uttarakhand BJP, said state party media unit in-charge Manveer Chauhan.
The woman’s parents lodged a missing complaint at the revenue police post on Monday morning after they did not find her in her room, police said.
Pulkit Arya, Bhaskar and Gupta were arrested after they confessed to killing the woman. Pauri Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shekhar Chandra Suyal told PTI that they dumped her body in the Chela canal.
Initially, they tried to mislead the police but confessed to the crime when they were strictly interrogated, he said.
A team has been sent to retrieve the body of the woman from the canal, the ASP said, adding that the case was solved within 24 hours of its transfer from the revenue police.
The police said that the Kotdwar court has sent the three accused to 14 days judicial custody.
Vivek Kumar, a revenue police sub-inspector at Ganga Bhogpur Talla, was suspended for not registering an immediate report in the matter, making the victim’s parents wait for two hours and abusing them, officials said.
