Calcutta-London flight to resume, Center is on the way to a big decisionSEDI News

#New Delhi. Kolkata-London direct flights are going to resume after a long break. This air transportation was stopped in 2012. The central government is thinking about starting this service again.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia assured to take appropriate steps in this regard. A high-level Trinamool Congress delegation met Scindia at his office in Delhi on Tuesday.

Trinamool Lok Sabha leader Sudeep Banerjee, Rajya Sabha leader Derek O’Brien were in that party. Senior MPs Sugath Roy and Shuchendu Shekhar Roy were also present.

The Trinamool delegation submitted a memorandum to Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia demanding further improvement of air services in the state and opening of 5 airports simultaneously.

The party’s Lok Sabha leader Sudeep Banerjee said on this day. “We have been asked about the progress of opening airports at Cooch Behar, Balurghat and Malda as announced under the central government’s aviation project.”

According to Sudeep, the minister said that very soon small scale flights will be started from airports like Cooch Behar and Balurghat. The need to build an airport in Chara of Purulia was conveyed to the minister. He is convinced.

How many people will benefit if the airport is built in the territory of Purulia, the minister explained. He has sought a detailed recommendation from the state government in this regard. In the near future, the government will present this proposal in writing.

A 9 seater flight service will be launched from Cooch Behar this winter. On the other hand, the Trinamool delegation talked about modernizing the Andal airport with modern management.

Earlier, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding Andal Airport. In this regard, Jyotiraditya Scindia informed the Trinamool delegation today that Andal is a private airport.

The airport operates on a PPP model. The Prime Minister requested 375 million drams for the modernization of this airport. In this regard, the Prime Minister wrote to the Prime Minister on November 18, 2021. But the minister said that since it is a private airport, the central government cannot provide any funding here.

Also, Bagdogra Airport in North Bengal has been requested to be made an international airport. Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia assured the discussion.
