A magnitude 6.8 earthquake in Mexico’s capital damaged several buildings and killed two people. Three days earlier, a 7.6-magnitude earthquake killed two people in central Mexico.

The epicenter of the latest quake was south-southwest near the Pacific coast in western Michoacan, at a depth of about 24.1 km. Tremors were felt throughout the province of Michoacan, while a building was damaged in Uruwan and a landslide occurred on the highway connecting Michoacan to Guerrero.

Earlier on September 20, a 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck off Mexico’s central Pacific coast on Monday, the anniversary of the first two devastating earthquakes. The alarm was sounded as soon as the earthquake struck the country’s capital. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at around 1.05 pm local time. Two people died in this earthquake, while several buildings were reported to have collapsed. Power supply was disrupted at many places.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was 37 kilometers (23 mi) southeast of Aquila, near the border of the states of Colima and Michoacan, at a depth of 15.1 kilometers (9.4 mi). The magnitude of the earthquake was initially reported as 7.5.
