Google Career Certificates, 15,000 scholarships issuedSEDI News

KARACHI: Google today launched Career Certificates to offer a flexible learning path for all Pakistanis so that learners can develop their knowledge and acquire digital skills for in-demand jobs. A report by AlphaBeta found that digital technology could generate economic value worth PKR 9.7 trillion (USD 59.7 billion) annually in Pakistan by 2030 if fully leveraged. Pakistan’s ICT sector has registered significant growth over the past decade, boasting an average annual growth. Revenue growth rate 20-30%. ICT-related exports currently exceed US$5 billion, and the Ministry of IT and Telecommunications believes that the sector has “potential [nation’s] largest export industry in coming years”. Currently, approximately 4.7% of Pakistan’s labor force is employed in the ICT sector, of which 6% – or ~200,000 workers – are women. The ICT sector also has the highest number of job vacancies based on data from Pakistan’s leading job portal, Rozee.pk.

Partnerships have been created with both the public and private sectors as we aim to uplift the digital industry in Pakistan.”
Syeda Door-e-Hassan Rizvi, data science trainee at Institute of Engineering Career said, “Though challenges and obstacles may come in the way, persistence is important if you want to succeed. After dipping my toe into the world of data, I have now completed the Google Data Analytics certification – it was a fantastic learning opportunity. I feel more confident and ready to learn and grow more!”

To provide more Pakistanis with the opportunity to benefit from Google Career Certificates, Google will offer scholarships to 15,000 learners to obtain the certificate at no cost. Google will partner with IRM and Ignite to distribute the scholarships.
