Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad can be changed if needed: Chief selector. The Pakistan team has no plans to make changes to the T20 World Cup squad, but an option is available to make some changes if required, chief selector Mohammad Wasim said on Wednesday.

Speaking to a private news channel, Wasim admitted that the Pakistan team is facing problems in the middle order and that they are trying out different combinations during the England series ahead of the mega tournament.

Top-order batsman Shan Masood was included in the 15-man squad announced last week along with pacers Mohammad Wasim Jr and Shaheen Shah Afridi for the first time in the shortest format, while Fakhr ZamanMohammad Haris and Shahnawaz Dahani have been named as the three touring reserves.

Wasim Jr was included after fully recovering from a side strain sustained during the ACC T20 Asia Cup, while Shaheen, who is undergoing rehabilitation for a knee injury in London and is expected to start bowling early next month, will join the squad in Brisbane on the 15th. October.

Team changes can be made until October 15 without requiring the approval of the Event Technical Committee.

Mohammad Wasim said that the team’s performance in the Asia Cup 2022 final and the first T20I against England was not satisfactory.

“Pakistan team is facing batting problems which efforts are being made to resolve. The team management has also been doing different combinations in the recent series to solve it and giving bench strength a chance. The World Cup is around the corner and we are not worried about two defeats in a row.”

Regarding changes to the World Cup squad, the chief selector said there are no plans to change it yet, but the option is definitely there.

“I am not sure if there will be any changes. I hope the players selected for the tournament will do well [in the ongoing series].

Injuries can also cause changes, he said, Fakhar Zaman is part of the squad and we hope he recovers from injury soon, but if he is not fit for the World Cup, some names are under consideration.

He said that Saim Ayub and Sharjeel Khan are in our 18 players but not in 15.

“It is not necessary to choose an opener instead of an opener. Some names are under review.”

Wasim said he did not mind the criticism on his choice or on himself, but regretted targeting the players.
