Hyderabad: A government school principal and his wife in Telangana’s Khammam district allegedly hired killers for Rs 8 lakh to kill their only son.
The parents, Kshatriya Ram Singh and Ranibai, were fed up with their son’s drinking habit and nuisance which led them to take this drastic step.
The parents accused of the murder were arrested and sent to judicial custody on Monday along with four of the five alleged killers of the murder. One of the alleged killers is absconding.
The body of the victim, Sai Ram, 26, a college dropout, was dumped in Suryapet on October 18 and was found a day later.
CCTV footage showing the family car used in the crime led police to the couple, who never filed a missing complaint. It was later learned that the parents had used the same car to go to the mortuary to identify their son’s body on October 25.
Police said Sai Ram abused and beat up his parents when they refused to give them money for liquor. Family members said they sent him to a rehabilitation center in Hyderabad, but to no avail.
Huzurabad Circle Inspector Rama Linga Reddy said the couple sought help from Ranibai’s brother Satyanarayan to kill their son. Satyanarayana further roped in R Ravi, D Dharma, P Nagaraju, D Sai and B Rambabu to perform the act.
The couple has already paid Rs. 1.5 lakh was paid and three days after the murder, Rs. 6.5 lakh had agreed to pay the balance, the police said.
On October 18, Satyanarayan and Ravi took Sai Ram in the family car to a temple in Kalepally and met the other accused. “All had consumed alcohol and after Sai Ram had finished drinking, he was strangled with a rope,” said Inspector Reddy.
