Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the Environment Ministers’ Conference in Gujarat. He said that today’s new India is moving ahead with new thinking and new approach. Today India is also a fast developing economy and is continuously strengthening its ecosystem. He said, our forest cover has increased and the area of wetlands is also increasing rapidly.
PM Modi said, due to our track record of fulfilling our commitments, the world is also connecting with India today. Gir lions, tigers, elephants, one-horned rhinos and leopards have increased in numbers over the years. A new excitement has returned with the homecoming of Cheetah in Madhya Pradesh a few days ago. India has set a target of net zero by 2070. Now the focus of the country is on green growth, green jobs and for achieving all these goals, the role of environment ministry of every state is huge. PM said, I would urge all environment ministers to promote circular economy as much as possible in the states. This will also give strength to our campaign of solid waste management and freedom from single use plastic.
Water scarcity in many states today
During the conference, the Prime Minister said, “Nowadays we see that in the states where there was abundance of water, the ground water used to remain above, today there is a shortage of water. This challenge is not only of the water related department, but the environment department will also have to consider it as an equally big challenge. The PM said, we have shown the world that hardly anyone can touch our speed and our scale in terms of renewable energy. India is leading the world today to deal with big challenges
