Walk-in connected care clinics will now be open from 9am to 8pm on weekdays and 9am to 5pm on weekends – effectively doubling the number of appointments available daily from 150 to 300.

Chief Medical Officer of Health with WRHA Dr. Jose Reimer said a significant percentage of people who visit the hospital could be treated at a walk-in or doctor’s office instead.

Shortage of staff at Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg could mean long wait

“Each month, about 40 percent of people who visit a Winnipeg urgent care center or emergency department can get the health care they need, often without a long wait, through a walk-in clinic or doctor’s office,” Reimer said.

Clinics are available on a walk-in basis when you are not able to see your primary care provider right away.

The health authority is also launching an updated website, starting Thursday, offering information and resources to help Winnipeggers decide the best options for accessing the health care they need. The site will also display real-time wait information for five walk-in clinics as well as local urgent care and emergency departments.

“By directing people to the right health-care service for their needs, and putting the information they need to make decisions about where to go for health-care services at their fingertips, we can get the best possible care as soon as possible. More people, and ultimately reduce the time people spend waiting for care,” Reimer said.
